Social Science
Considering the development plan of Afghanistan in all sectors and in line with the strategic plan of the Ministry of Higher Education, Herat University as a dynamic and mobile science center with a proposal to establish a social science faculty in the year 2013, honors the Ministry of Education. This faculty started its work in the year 2014 as an independent faculty with three departments (History, Geography and Sociology) in Herat University. In the same year, the Department of Sociology was separated from the Faculty of Literature and Humanities and with its academic staff joined the faculty. The faculty now has 5 faculty members and more than 772 students who study two times (morning and afternoon).

Faculty Library
This faculty has a dedicated library with about 800 books in various fields (history, sociology and geography) prepared by professors and students and are given to students.
The Department of Sociology Since its establishment, with the help of departmental professors and students, it has established a small library in the department's framework, named after the first Islamic cultural sociology, Ibn Khaldon. The Ibn Khaldon Library currently contains about 500 books in Persian and English. All departmental students can use the library's membership card by getting the library membership card, reading the books they need in the library environment, or getting a free library for a week. All members of the library, based on their previous commitment, deliver to the library at least one book in the social sciences or sociology each semester to provide further growth for the library.
Journal of the Society of Artists
The student’ printing section Association has a specialized journal in the field of social issues called the Society of Artists. So far, two issues of this journal have been published. All journal writing is produced by students, and most of the articles and abstracts of student research are published there.
