Journalism
At first department of Journalism establish at the part of literature faculty of Herat University in 2002.
After that department of Journalism Became independent faculty by sign of Minster of higher education of Afghanistan in 2011.
Academic members of faculty
In this time faculty of Journalism and mass Communication has 13 academic members; that six of them have their Mastery degree and others are bachelors.
Most of Academic members of faculty of Journalism and mass Communication are expert teachers which have higher experience on the working of national and international media organizations.
In this time two of the them are studying for their (PHD) degree and three of them are studying for their Master degree.

Library of Journalism and mass Communication
Journalism and mass Communication has a huge library; which has content about 40 thousand books.
Now we have 6000 books which are about Media, Public Relation, Law, Politics and economics. The texts of these books are in English and Persian languages.
The newest books on media part has come from son joze of USA university. And this library is the best huge library among Afghanistan’s Journalism faculties.
Youths Radio Station
faculty of Journalism and mass Communication has a radio station which is called youth voice. The station started its work in 2004 for students to practice their lessons. This station has 13 hours broadcast on about 30 KM in Herat area.
The programs are made by the students of third and fourth classes.
Printing and Pegah Student Newspaper
The print center of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is operating at the Media Operations Center. The center includes advanced and professional printing machines and equipment for the production, design and distribution of print media and advertising banners. Students at the center conduct practical press activities.
Pegah newspaper is the first and only student newspaper in Afghanistan, which was created in 2004 by students of this faculty and has always been informed about various aspects. At least four student publications were also published by various faculties of this faculty.

The statistics of students in 2017
The Faculty of Journalism and Mass Media of Herat University has become a national journalism faculty nationwide, and currently students from 20 provinces in Afghanistan are studying in two departments of journalism and public relations at the undergraduate level. The faculty now has 524 students, of whom 451 are boys and 73 are girls.
