Introduction to Faculty of Fine Arts

Simultaneously with the establishment of Herat University in 1988, the Faculty of Fine Arts was established and started its activities with only one department (Calligraphy and Painting). Moving on the path of its development, under the rule of Ministry of Higher Education, it established departments of Miniature in 2003 and Graphic in 2011.

Faculty of Fine Arts is a governmental organization. Its goals and aims are set and followed by according to the rules and regulation of Ministry of Higher Education.

Scientific Staff Member

Right now, there are 28 lecturers at faculty of Fine Arts. 17 hold MD Degrees and 8 BA that 3 of them are doing their MD and PHD studies in Iran and India. One of lecturers is holding the position of POHAWAL, 11 POHANMAL, 8 POHANYAR and 8 POHYALAY.

Facilities and Equipment

Faculty of Fine Arts has a four-floor building into the complex of Herat University. It includes classrooms, workshops, computer Lab and library.

Library of faculty

Presently this library has 3000 books on the fields of Painting, Calligraphy, Miniature, Music, Cinema, Criticism, esthetic, photography, Fretwork, Ceramic, Drawing, Art History, Art Theory, Colors, Graphics, Literature, Dictionaries, and etc. They are available for all students and teachers.

Computer and Internet Room

Faculty of Fine Arts has a computer Lab room that is equipped with 20 Desktop computers and internet for the use of students.

Area of working of faculty 

The graduates from faculty of Fine arts are able to work for advertising companies, TV networks, schools as teachers, universities as lecturers, house designing and decorating, repairing of historical monuments, urban designing, packaging companies, cultural sectors od municipalities and etc.

Students’ Statistics

The Faculty of Fine Arts has changed to a national faculty in the country and now students from many provinces of Afghanistan study in its three departments of Painting, Miniature and Graphic in BA degree. Overall, it has 532 students including 331 females and 201 males.
