Introduction of Veterinary Faculty

History of veterinary science faculty

     In 2011 (1390 hijri) veterinary science faculty established in Herat University. Even though the reason of having veterinary science faculty arose after creating veterinary department in agriculture faculty of Herat university framework, finally this faculty is offered to establish in 2002 (1381 hijri). After a decade of development in growing livestock, dairy products, pisciculture, beekeeping and sericulture through agriculture faculty, Herat University understood this spring development and took a great step by establishing veterinary science faculty in this university framework and the members of veterinary science staff attempted to offer the promotion of department to faculty, due to strong argument the education ministry accepted to promote veterinary department to veterinary faculty and it is established in Herat university framework in 2011(1390). The main purpose of establishing the faculty is teaching development and investigating acquisition and training promotion also transferring new technology to society about veterinary and livestock. For providing veterinary services this faculty attempted to train experts and scientific cadre in order to tranquility development, healthy and production of animals and public health protection. Now this faculty locates in new complex of Herat University and uses agriculture faculty’s building commonly. It has 13 professional scientific staffs with master and bachelor degree.

     The number of students in 1393(education year) in this faculty is about 194 students and about 27 percent is female.

Currently veterinary science faculty of Herat University has follow active departments.

The complex of active laboratories in this faculty included:

  2. Histology
  3. Parasitology
  4. Anatomy

Also this faculty has a teaching veterinary clinic which is located in Bagh Dasht connecting to Herat University. It is built in four floors having office rooms, and other rooms for animals’ registration, checking up small and big animals, surgery, pharmacy, conference, observations and public laboratory room means equipped room with microbiology and parasitology.

Faculty’s library has more than two thousands private books in various sectors of veterinary and livestock sciences. Also this faculty has an electronic library with more than ten thousands books with national and international languages.

Commitments:

The faculty’s commitments and main purpose included increasing activities for developing veterinary and livestock, aviculture and pisciculture through this slogan (animal wealth, national wealth).

  • Other goals are determined by education ministry and veterinary faculty base onnecessitations

Duties

     Veterinary sciences faculty of Herat University knows his duty to work hardly for leading and training experts and science staffs for teaching, investigating and instructional services dependent on veterinary and livestock sciences. This faculty tries to step accordance society and technology till via generalizing and promoting new knowledge and discoveries develops supreme human resources and new technologies and try to distribute them for serving to livestock and Herat province farmers.
